Position Summary: Assists in developing and managing integrated training, education and development strategies and programs for physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs), UNM Hospitals (UNMH) and UNM Medical Group (MG) Coders. Assists in developing and implementing strategic needs analyses and training plans for the organization, and delivers training via in-person, virtual, on-line or written materials. Participates in program development and administrative aspects of the activity, to include coordination of all technical aspects of training sessions (e.g. arranging for physical space or virtual access, ensuring that slides and supporting documents or props are in place, ensuring that appropriate and timely invitations are distributed, etc.). Provides guidance and leadership to Coding departments for both UNMH and MG, and to Billing Department management in the implementation and administration of effective systems, processes and procedures. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and department policies and procedures. No patient care assignment.
Detailed responsibilities: * EXPERTISE - Provides consultation, leadership, and expertise to Health System Compliance Department management in the planning, implementation, and delivery of coding and documentation education for both facility fee billing and professional fee billing * EDUCATION - Identifies and addresses educational opportunities identified through Compliance Department audits and reviews * EDUCATION - Assists in assessing the educational needs of providers, management and coding staff and develops programs or researches educational resources to meet those needs * COORDINATION - Assists in developing training materials and coding aids for both formal training and use by coders in daily work * INNOVATION - Identifies and evaluates innovative educational methodologies that may be appropriate for the targeted audience, especially providers; incorporates new methodologies as appropriate, to enhance and update the effectiveness of education and skills development programs * EDUCATION - Actively works on site at the clinics conducting specialized training in documentation, coding and related billing issues; helps identify and document appropriate codes and procedures for billing, as appropriate * EXPERTISE - Serves as a technical resource for all involved personnel; ensures that information is accurate and current and meets professional documentation and coding standards * COORDINATION - Participates in educational planning and training for Compliance coding auditors as needed or requested * RESEARCH - Actively monitors federal, state and local medical coding and billing literature, updates and websites to identify and address regulatory or statutory changes * COMMUNICATION - Participates in Health System committees, meetings and work teams/projects as requested * TECHNOLOGY - Uses technology as required to present training and learning materials in various formats including written, virtual, on-line and in-person * DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
