Role Purpose
Responsible for performing necessary services in providing therapeutic interaction for psychiatric patients on group and individual level under the direction of the registered nurse and treatment team. Adheres to all BJC and BJH standards, policies, protocols and procedures.
Responsibilities
In conjunction with other team members, provides continual monitoring of environment by conducting safety rounds, environmental rounds, contraband and room searches, and one-to-one observation as needed. Documents these observations appropriately.
Plans and facilitates didactic, educational, recreational, and community groups within the assigned treatment program as directed. Utilizes evidence-based practice in the planning and implementation of group and individual therapies. Actively encourages patient participation and involvement in therapeutic activities. Monitors and documents patient progress and appropriately communicates information to the RN, physicians, family members, and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team as appropriate.
Participates in assessment and treatment team meetings and shift report and provides feedback regarding progress of patient?s treatment and relevant clinical advisement. Participates in the treatment planning process and works toward continued progression of treatment for patient toward discharge. Performs various clerical and administrative assignments to support department operations.
Provides assistance to patients with activities of daily living under the direction of the RN and in collaboration with other unlicensed assistive personnel. This includes: assisting with bathing and toileting of patients with those needs. Assists with specimen collection, taking vitals, and EKGs as appropriate, and as their level of certification will allow.
Orients new patients and their families to the unit, program structure, and physical environment. Provides appropriate patient information when accepting or receiving patients from other units.
