The division of Developmental Biology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital is seeking a Student II level position as an assistant scientific biocurator with Xenbase (www. Xenbase.org), the Xenopus (African clawed frog) model organism database. This is an entry-level position and will be part time (10 to 15 hours per week).
Summary of Responsibilities & Tasks:
The position will involve collaborative work with the Xenbase curation team of 7 other biocurators and data analysts. The primary responsibility of the position will be to process published research articles, preparing them for scientific curation. This involves identifying appropriate articles from PubMed, uploading article abstracts to the Xenbase database, confirming author information, uploading data figures, extracting and curating genes, protocols and reagents. Additional projects may involve your creative input to develop interfaces for data display, generating educational resources, updating community pages or posting to social media.
Starting Salary: - $13.00 per hour
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required:
Must currently be in an undergraduate degree granting program studying science and /or biology related degree
Preferred:
Background in biological sciences, vertebrate zoology, pre-med or similar
Experience in using standard personal computing software, browsers and tools (e.g., google docs, Wiki, XL, Word, microsoft power BI).
Unique Skills:
The successful candidate will be self-motivated, efficient, detail oriented, possess good communication skills, keep excellent records, able to work independently and within a team.
