Role Purpose
Plans, organizes, and directs operations of the patient care divisions of an organization. Develops and implements professional policies, standards, and models. Has authority, responsibility and accountability for the definition of policies, procedures and standards relating to the provision of nursing care for the organization. Maintains active leadership role with the organization’s governing body, senior leadership, medical staff, management, and other clinical leaders in the organization decision-making structure and process. Authorized to speak on behalf of patient care systems, nursing, both direct and indirect reports. Supports and facilitates an interdisciplinary/interdepartmental approach to the delivery of patient care. Develops partnerships in creating a contemporary care coordination model for patient care systems. Involved in system level initiatives in stabilizing the workforce.
Responsibilities
- Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
- Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
- Reports directly to the President of the Organization and BJC Vice President Patient Care Systems. Reporting indirectly are all nurses outside the Division of Nursing, who provide nursing care, treatment, and services.
- Leadership in the strategic planning of the organization and nursing.Participates in the leadership of the organization as a member of the executive team and system nurse executive council. Champions effective communication strategies with staff at all levels in the organization. CNO or designee approves all nursing policies; nursing standards of patient care, treatment, and services; and standards of nursing practice for the hospital before implementation. Integrate appropriate technologies.
- Encourages collaboration between all divisions/departments to ensure that nursing, ancillary and support services are integrated to provide safe, efficient, quality patient care and excellent service. Ensures that decisions addressing issues affecting nursing care include registered nurses, including those who provide direct and indirect patient care.
- In collaboration with department directors, develops and maintains annual budget for all assigned areas of responsibility, monitoring fiscal, productivity, and acuity and quality indicators to ensure that fiscal, human and physical resources are maximized and all variance are addressed. Actively participates in the institution’s emergency planning. Oversees contracts with outside consultants and vendors for patient care services.

- Master's Degree - Nursing/Healthcare related
- 10+ years
- 10+ years of supervisor experience
- RN
