Job Summary:
Supports the licensed healthcare team in performing office examinations and procedures by organizing and managing clinic patient flow, gathering and documenting patient screening data, assisting Provider with documentation support and patient and family education and communication with patient's health care team. All patient care activities are undertaken with the delegation/supervision of a licensed professional in accordance with VUMC standards, licensure, and certification regulations.


Key Responsibilities:

• Directs and supports patient flow as well as unit operations by maintaining supplies, equipment and unit environmental standards.
• Facilitates identification of resources to meet patient healthcare needs.
• Performs/assists with procedures according to organizational/departmental standards.
• Collects and documents patient screening data for the healthcare team.
• Assists with patient and family education.

• Leads daily care team huddle and facilitates the care team activities.
• Coordinates any follow-up appointments or procedures required for patient.
• Schedules appointments or procedures through clinical communication or direct request.
• Supports the physician's/advanced practice practitioner documentation and/or activities during the visit.

• From broken bones to the most complex orthopedic conditions, the Pediatric Orthopaedics program at Children's Hospital offers the region's most advanced care in a family-friendly environment. We treat a wide range of pediatric problems, including complex fractures; sports injuries; deformities of the spine, bones, hips or feet; scoliosis; and infections of the musculoskeletal system.

Qualifications - External:

High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience) and 1 year relevant industry

  • Medical Assistants must have and maintain a certification from one of the VUMC approved MA programs within 90 days of employment. Vanderbilt endorsed MA certifications: American Medical Technologists (AMT), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Healthcareer Association (NHA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP). Others organizations may be considered on a case by case basis. Successful completion of the American Healthcare Documentation Professionals Group (AHDPG) Medical Scribe Training & Implementation Program or VUMC medical documentation/scribe training.
