The Senior Database Administrator supports research activities as part of an accomplished research team in the Clinical Pharmacology Division at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The overall theme of research is mechanisms underlying variability in response to drug therapy, with a particular focus on therapies used to treat cardiac arrhythmias. The individual projects focus on emerging models in molecular medicine and genetics.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Applications: Maintain and handle requests for research data formatting tools, as requested. Applications may include but are not limited to R/web app, dbGaP SRAtoolkit, RedCap, Jupyter Hub management, Rstudio management.
Routine analysis: Polygenic risk score calculations, genotype imputation and quality control, HLA imputation, data download and preprocessing for WES/RNAseq/Genotype, Misc. 1-off analyses, mostly in R (plotting, correlations, associations, binning, case/control matching).
Data exploration: E.g. specific variant frequencies within database populations, absence/presence of novel variants, gene expression reports.
Server Management: Create user accounts, resolve access and permission issues, balance data usage across multiple partitions as they change, install R/Python/Perl/System packages when requested. Replace hardware (e.g. failed drives) and order new equipment, OS reinstalls, new website configuration/management, backup configuration/management.

Department Summary:
The scientific mission of the Clinical Pharmacology Division is to understand the mechanisms of drug action in humans in order to improve therapeutics. The research of the Division members bridges the basic and clinical sciences. In addition to conducting state-of-the-art research, members of the Division also lead many institutional and national efforts to train clinical and translational investigators and to support infrastructure for translational research.
