POSITION SUMMARY 

Under the supervision and/or direction of the Registered Nurse, the Nurse Assistant/PCT performs various direct patient care activities in accordance with the Nursing Department policies and procedures. The Nurse Assistant/PCT is able to assist with the care of hospitalized patients. The Nurse Assistant/PCT may be assigned other functions in accordance with hospital/department policies, procedures, and protocols. 

The Patient Care Technician Academy is a 6-week long training program that utilizes classroom and on unit teachings to prepare Associates for the work they will face once on unit permanently.

Expectations for those committed to this course as a part of their employment are as follows:

· Attending Associates will be required to maintain perfect attendance as missing a day will result in missing critical competencies during the course.

· Attendees Commit to one (1) year as a fulltime associate with CHRISTUS Health. In return, CHRISTUS Health commits to providing the Academy course as well as the certification testing at no charge to the associate. Should attendees choose not to uphold the one (1) year commitment, CHRISTUS Health reserves the right to be reimbursed for all or part of the course and testing.

· Prior experience as Nurse Assistant in healthcare or certificate of completion from approved Nurse Assistant training program is not required.
