Role Purpose
The Coding Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Enterprise Coding department including coordination, prioritization, personnel supervision and issue resolution. This position supervises the operational workflow and processes related to coding. This position also works closely with the Coding Managers and HIM Leaders/other hospital departments as needed to ensure timely and compliant coding.
Responsibilities
- Supervises coding staff for the purpose of providing accurate diagnostic and procedural coded data for statistical, financial, clinical and quality improvement purposes. At the same time ensuring work processes and procedures comply with all regulatory and compliance requirements. Serves as a resource to coders for coding, abstracting and process related questions.
- Responsible for hiring, training, performance management, and professional development of coding staff.
- Monitors and addresses coding professional's performance such as productivity, quality, adherence to processes, and use of tools and resources.
- Accountable for the management of coding queues and reports to support timely coding; manages volumes to assure that resources are appropriately utilized.
- Proactively identifies issues impacting coding goals; keeps Coding Manager/Director informed of challenges, issues, obstacles and presents solutions.
Minimum Requirements
- Associate's Degree
- 2-5 years experience
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Registered Health Info. Administrator
