Â·Responsible for knowledge of contents of department and instrument manuals and maintenance of all required logs.
Â·Demonstrates accurate and timely performance, interpretation and reporting of patient testing.
Â·Revises policies / procedures when required.
Â·Verifies and records department temperatures and performs corrective action for out-of-range temperatures.
Â·Maintains appropriate supply of reagents, QC material and supplies.
Â·Collects, handles, processes and stores specimens per requirements.
Â·Evaluates specimens and recognizes interfering substances or inappropriate specimens; initiates recollection process, if indicated.
Â·Performs regular maintenance of equipment.
Â·Schedules calibration testing, evaluation and documentation.
Â·Identifies and corrects equipment error codes or alarms; notifies appropriate person when service is needed and documents.
Â·Responsible for quality control including procedure for reconstitution of QC materials, QC testing, evaluation and documentation, and corrective action for out-of-range quality controls.
Â·When reporting results, correlates results of pertinent laboratory determinations to information from coworkers and to the patientâ™s condition.
Â·Recognizes abnormal results, critical action results, sources of error, of interfering substances and initiates corrective action where indicated.
Â·Verifies accuracy and transcription of final report.
Â·Locates potentially hazardous chemicals in the workplace.
Â·Understands major components of the hospitalâ™s standard labeling system.
Â·Recognizes chemical labeling and its meaning, and can locate and use the MSDS book or online MSDS resources.
Â·Wears appropriate protective clothing for the hazard / area of work.
Â·Demonstrates emergency procedures in the event of a hazardous chemical spill.
Â·Shares responsibility for common lab functions (i.e., putting away supplies, answering STAT tube system, and maintaining clean break room area).
Â·Participates in proficiency testing.
Â·Assists new employees through orientation process.
Â·Familiar with computer programs used in department, checks email messages at least daily, and ability to access hospital and department manuals online.
Â·Other duties as business needs arise.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Â·Bachelor degree in Medical Technology or equivalent required.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
Â·Current, valid Technologist license from the State of Florida.
Independently perform and report clinical laboratory assays with precision and accuracy according to established policies and procedures. Develop and implement policies and procedures for new equipment and/or assays. Responsible for the development of quality control procedures outlining acceptable guidelines and monitoring. Must perform, evaluate and accurately record quality control testing on all reportable assays. Must be able to perform accurately and timely all routine scheduled maintenance and unscheduled maintenance needed to assure proper operation of medical laboratory equipment.
