What You Will Be Responsible For:
Â·Conducts a nutrition assessment for patients at nutritional risk. Obtains timely and appropriate data and analyzes/interprets data based on evidence-based standards.
Â·Performs nutrition diagnosis after identifying the problem and clarifying the cause of the problem.
Â·Develops and implements an individualized plan for nutrition intervention in accordance with the patientâ™s medical program goals and objectives, nutrition prescription, and self management training. May require development of a therapeutic plan of specialized nutrition support, including enteral and parenteral nutrition.
Â·Utilizes assessment and evaluation techniques that consider the varied needs of age specific populations as well as cultural, religious, and ethnic concerns.
Â·Evaluates the effectiveness and measures progress toward outcomes of medical nutrition therapy interventions. Reassesses nutrition care process and implements changes as indicated.
Â·Communicated with the medical team through interdisciplinary meetings, medical conferences and Tumor Board.
Â·Provides appropriate documentation that summarizes the nutrition care plan in the patientâ™s medical record, including nutrition assessment, diagnosis plan, implementation, and progress toward goals.
Â·Demonstrates accountability for the proper use of patientâ™s protected health information.
Â·Assures that care delivered to each patient is in accordance with the State practice act.
Â·Assesses educational needs and provides nutrition counseling for individuals and groups.
Â·Serves as a resource to medical staff and allied health personnel on nutrition issues.
Â·Participates in community projects and education as needed/assigned.
Â·Conducts in-services and educational presentations to hospital/department staff.
Â·Participates in CREATION Health initiatives.
Â·Maintains Dietetic Registration and continuing education requirements. Develops and implements an individualized plan for professional growth and development including participation in professional organizations and activities, workshops, seminars, and staff development programs.
Â·Maintains continuing education requirements for Georgia State License.
Â·Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary meetings, task forces, and projects.
4.Has access to information in patient medical records needed to perform nutritional assessment and/or diet education. This includes, but may notbe limited to, history and physical, lab values, radiology reports, operating room reports, speech therapist reports, psychological reports, social work/case manager reports, physician notes, nursing notes, cultural background, and religion.
5.Performs other related duties as assigned.
6.This position reports directly to the Director of Oncology Services and Department VP assigned.
7.This position requires frequent use of resources of moderate value. Appropriate use of resources is expected â“ conserving equipment, supplies and personal time, and personal calls.
What You Will Need:
Must be knowledgeable with the National Research Councilâ™s Recommended Dietary Allowances.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition, or related area, granted by a U.S. regionally accredited college or university. Completion of didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association.
Must have completed academic program as mentioned above; one year experience in acute care setting preferred. Must be able to communicate patient nutrition needs to the physician, nursing staff, and other appropriate staff.
Licensure, Certification or Registration Required:
Registered Dietitians must be licensed in the State of Georgia.
The Oncology Dietitian works closely with the interdisciplinary health care team to provide nutritional care. This includes assessment of nutritional status of cancer patients, developing and implementation of nutrition care plans, nutritional counseling and education according to the physicianâ™s orders. Nutritionist will also provide community outreach on cancer prevention and nutritional guidance.
